About
Glen Aitken is a British orchestrator, arranger and technical score consultant who has worked with leading film, broadcast and concert hall composers in the UK, US and Australia.
Glen studied trumpet with renowned performers, including Michael Laird, John Miller and the late James Watson, before turning to composition in his student years under the guidance of Michael Finnissy and Donald Grantham. After graduating he moved to London, landing his first full time role as Musical Assistant to film composer Michael Nyman. Since that time he has gone on to establish a career working with well-known film and broadcast composers including Patrick Doyle and Christopher Gordon.
Besides orchestrating and arranging, he has reconstructed orchestral and choral music for performance and recording (mostly for commercial distribution and sync licence in the US and EMEA). His arrangements have been featured by the BBC and in album releases reaching No. 1 in the Official UK Classical Charts.
He has also built good working relationships with major British and American record labels and musicians’ rights organisations internationally. Since 2005, he has worked with cult soundtrack label Mellowdrama Records on their critically-lauded album releases including The Beautiful Country and Enduring Love.
In his spare time, Glen works to raise the profile of late British composer’s estates, designs commercial artwork (with clients having included a Top 10 CoolBrand®) and drinks Starbucks Chai Tea lattes (with the obligatory seasonal gingerbread vanilla shots).
